High School Senior Is Living His Dream Playing College Football!

Believe and Achieve

Dreams do come true. Just ask graduating senior Drew Bunn at Shorecrest Preparatory School. This star quarterback just got recruited for the college football team at the University of Rochester for four years.

“It’s an awesome experience,” he says. “I’m really excited to play college football.”

Looking back on his high school football victories, this 17-year-old has a heart of gratitude for winning the state championships his junior and senior years. He says, “It was awesome to be a part of that and lead the way to a winning program.”

Drew, who has been playing football for roughly six years, first started tackle football seven years ago. “My Mom wouldn’t let me play football any earlier than that,” he says. “I got to take my first snap my seventh grade year.” That was a moment that he will always remember. Drew started playing quarterback and hasn’t looked back since.

“I have loved every moment of my high school football career,” he says. “My favorite part is the team aspect of it is the camaraderie.” Being close to his teammates and developing tight bonds with them is what it’s all about for this athlete. Working with his friends to achieve the state championship was rewarding.

To be the best player he can be, Drew is currently working on building muscle so he can withstand the college football field with confidence.

A Heart of Gratitude

Drew wouldn’t be where he is today without the help of others along the way. He’s thankful for Drew Phillips, his quarterback trainer, and trains with him 2-3 times a week during the off season to help with his mechanics and fix his flaws.

“He has helped me evolve and be the person I am today. I’m very thankful for everything he has done for me and my football career.”

Drew is also thankful for the opportunities that Shorecrest presented to him. “I am thankful to all my coaches, especially Shorecrest Football Head Coach Anthony McCall, for getting me where I am today,” he says.

Future Plans

“I plan on majoring in Business and minoring in Finance,” says Drew. He chose the University of Rochester because of its great business program. The opportunity to play football was also what drew him to this popular school.

“It’s a great academic school and I wanted to set myself up for the future. The University of Rochester put me in the best position to succeed after football,” he points out.

Interestingly, Drew is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. A “big-time Patriots fan,” he left New England with his family to settle in Tampa. “Tom Brady followed me in a way,” jokes Drew. He looks up to Tom Brady and the incredible legacy that he left in football. Drew also looks up to JJ McCarthy at the University of Michigan, who is his favorite quarterback to watch.

Active Interests

When not hitting the books or at school, Drew likes to play golf. “Golf used to be my first love,” he explains. “It was the first sport I wanted to play in middle school.” After his seventh grade year, he decided to veer away from golf to focus exclusively on football.

Drew even passed up a scholarship for the IMG Academy to pursue his dream of high school football, which was worth it.

Drew resides on Monterey Blvd. with his parents, Jim and Nadia Bunn. They couldn’t be prouder of their son and are excited about his bright future ahead! Seeing his dream of playing college football manifest into reality is priceless.
