Meet the Reznick-Lopes Family: Embracing Community, Volleyball, and the Great Outdoors

Debbie Lopes and Gary Reznick, along with their family, have found their happy place in Eugene’s Southwest Hills neighborhood. After falling in love with the area while visiting their daughter Haleigh at the University of Oregon, the couple moved from California in 2022. Now, they’re thrilled to call Eugene home, surrounded by its welcoming neighbors, stunning trails, and abundant opportunities to connect with nature.
When the kids were younger, Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, and Disneyland were always annual events for the family. With the kids always active in sports, most of our spare time was spent supporting and traveling with their kids’ sports teams. Their favorite vacation spots have included North Shore Lake Tahoe, Maui, US Virgin Islands, and Disneyland.
Nowadays, the ReznickLopes family is a dynamic crew of five adult kids: Jordan (28), Cole (24), Haleigh (23), Daniel (21), and Emily (21). Each brings their own unique energy and accomplishments to the family. Jordan, a UCSB graduate and former Crew athlete, is now excelling as a Cell Engineer in the Bay Area. Cole, a Duke University grad and swimmer, thrives in San Francisco’s tech scene. Haleigh, who earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees at U of O, is now a full-time therapist right in Eugene. Daniel, also a proud Duck, is diving deep into his computer science studies and is just as avid a volleyball player as Haleigh. Meanwhile, Emily is wrapping up her Biochemistry degree as a senior at Chico State.
Adding to the family’s charm are their two lovable cats, Esme and Dorothy. Esme, at 17, is the undisputed queen of the house, while Dorothy, an energetic 5-year-old, is the family’s little laser-chasing comedian. And let’s not forget their two “grand kittens,” Leo and Blue, who keep everyone entertained during visits.
Debbie and Gary keep busy with their professional lives—Debbie in Human Resources and Gary in Legal Tech Software Sales—but they always make time for what matters most: family, fun, and adventure. Their love for volleyball is a common thread that ties them all together, whether playing, watching U of O matches or cheering from the sidelines. When they’re not on the court, the family can be found hiking Oregon’s breathtaking trails, sampling local favorites like Tacovore and Lion & Owl, or savoring a laid-back afternoon at Sweet Cheeks Winery.
For Debbie and Gary, moving to Southwest Hills was more than a change of address—it was the start of a new chapter filled with incredible people and experiences. They’re grateful for their friendly and neighborly community, where connections feel effortless, and kindness is the norm. Their advice for anyone new to the area? Jump right in! Take a stroll on the Wild Iris Trail, explore Eugene’s vibrant food scene, and soak in the warm and welcoming spirit of Southwest Hills.
