The King Family
In the summer of 2011, Alex and Deirdre took a chance. Their sisters, Alicia and Jane, who had been friends since they attended St. Rose High School together, each thought Alex and Deidre would be a great match. At the time, Alex and Deidre were both living in the West Village. Alex was doing his residency at St. Barnabas and doing a reverse commute, while Deidre was working for the non-profit, Indego Africa, as their Creative Director. They were each driven in their careers and enjoying all the city had to offer. They loved their friends and close-knit families. A date was set to meet up in the city. A year and a half later, Alex came home from a 24-hour shift and proposed to Deidre in their apartment.
Alex and Deirdre learned early in their relationship of the mutual love they shared for the Jersey Shore. Alex grew up in Spring Lake, attending C.B.A, and Deirdre lived in Wall Township while going to St. Rose. After they married, they knew they wanted to raise a family by the beach. While a future in Spring Lake was what they dreamed of, their path there was not a straight line. They were ecstatic to be living in an apartment above the Scone Pony as newlyweds, but Alex’s 24-hour shifts and Deidre’s commute to the city were making life challenging. They realized they had to postpone their dream to fulfill another one.
After completing residency in the summer of 2016, with a second baby on the way, Deidre and Alex make their way back to the shore and bought their first home in Sea Girt Estates. In 2019, they found their dream home on Newark Avenue in Spring Lake. Deidre recalls, “We were so excited when we saw that house go up for sale and couldn’t believe it was ours when we actually moved in.” Their home on Newark Avenue, originally built in 1887, was exactly what they dreamed of- an old home in Spring Lake they could renovate. As many know, renovating an older home takes not only grit and determination but also trust and faith in the process. In the same manner they trusted their siblings' instincts years earlier, Alex and Deirdre decided to jump in with two full-time jobs and three children under the age of 5. When completed, they were acknowledged by The Preservation Alliance of Spring Lake for maintaining the home's historical beauty and charm. Most recently, they've gone on to renovate and remodel their current home on Madison Avenue with the same care and attention to detail as they've done in the past. It was only when they were finished remodeling and preserving their new home that they realized they wanted to make the dream of having a fourth child come true. They welcomed Susanna a year later. Their dedication to their family, careers, and their love of Spring Lake has been steadfast through all their transitions.
They are proud parents of four children; Iris (8), Albie (6), Delphine (5), and Susanna (6 months). Alex is a board-certified breast radiologist and provides care at RWJBarnabas offices in Monmouth and Ocean counties. When not working or spending time with his family, he can often be found surfing with friends at Washington Avenue. Building on her ten-year experience in the creative and design industry, Deirdre started her own interior styling business in the fall of 2020. She is also a member of the Spring Lake Shade Tree Committee and serves as President of the H.W Mountz PTA, where she helps provide support for the school and students through volunteerism and organized fundraising.
