The Tri-Cities Kiwanis of Grand Haven and Spring Lake

Serving the Children of The World

The Tri-Cities Kiwanis of Grand Haven/Spring Lake
In the heart of the Tri-Cities, the Kiwanis Club has been a beacon of hope and support
for over two decades, dedicated to uplifting the lives of children in our community.
Founded on the principles of service and empowerment, the Tri-Cities Kiwanis
embodies its international mission: to improve the world by making lasting differences in
the lives of children.
A Brief History of Kiwanis
For more than a century, Kiwanis International has mobilized local volunteers to create
significant change. By fostering a community of like-minded individuals, Kiwanis clubs
engage in approximately 150,000 service projects annually, raising nearly $100 million
to support families, communities, and children in need. In the Tri-Cities, this mission
translates into tangible support for local schools and children through various initiatives,
including the Sandy Huber Reading Program. The Tri-Cities Kiwanis meets every
Wednesday at noon at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, with a clear mission: “Kiwanis
empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives
of children.”
Impact of the Sandy Huber Reading Program
The Sandy Huber Reading Program showcases our commitment to education and
literacy. This initiative provides essential funding to local schools, enhancing their
reading programs and ensuring students have access to necessary resources. Over the
years, the Tri-Cities Kiwanis has contributed substantial financial support, enabling
schools to refresh libraries, purchase inclusive literature, and bolster bilingual
resources.
Educators report that the impact of these funds is profound. Schools have utilized the
funding to acquire decodable books for early readers, leading to remarkable
advancements in reading levels, thanks to the targeted support from the Tri-Cities
Kiwanis.
The Santa House Initiative
One of the most cherished projects undertaken by the Tri-Cities Kiwanis is the Santa
House as we honor in loving memory of Sandy Katt, a long-term Kiwanian. For 17
years, this festive fundraiser has brought joy to the community while raising critical
funds for children& #39;s programs. The Santa House is a magical place where families can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, take pictures, and enjoy the holiday spirit. Local businesses
and sponsors contribute to this initiative, ensuring that every dollar raised supports
children's programs.

Originally opened in 2005 between 5/3 rd Bank and Jumpin’ Java, the Santa House
became a beloved holiday tradition until 2020, when COVID-19 led to a temporary
suspension. For the past three years, it has found a new home at Porto Bello
Restaurant, located at 41 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI.
This year, the Santa House will be open on the following dates:
 Tuesday, Dec 10, 5 PM – 7 PM
 Wednesday, Dec 11, 5 PM – 7 PM
 Thursday, Dec 12, 5 PM – 7 PM
 Tuesday, Dec 17, 5 PM – 7 PM
 Wednesday, Dec 18, 5 PM – 7 PM
 Thursday, Dec 19, 5 PM – 7 PM
 Saturday, Dec 21, 1 PM – 5 PM
The proceeds from this year’s Santa House will support various Kiwanis programs, with
significant proceeds dedicated to the Sandy Huber Reading Program, honoring her
lifelong commitment to education. The Santa House operates solely on donations, and
generous sponsorships from local retailers help make this enchanting experience
possible. Kiwanis members take on the roles of elves during Santa and Mrs. Claus's
days, further enhancing the festive atmosphere for families and children.
Impact on the Community
The Tri-Cities Kiwanis is committed to supporting children's programs, including
pediatric health initiatives, literacy programs, and resources for special needs students.
Our organization regularly partners with local schools and community events, effectively
addressing the diverse needs of our community. Kiwanis clubs focus on changing the
world by serving children, one child, and one community at a time.
How Spring Lake Can Help?
The city of Spring Lake, MI, can play a vital role in supporting the mission of the Tri-
Cities Kiwanis. Community members are encouraged to participate by visiting the Santa
House, volunteering or making donations. Every contribution helps provide essential
resources for local children. By supporting Kiwanis, residents invest in the future of their
community's children.
