CUE Apparel
Cue up your Core!!
Season’s Greetings Spring Lake! Some of you may recognize me, while I may be new to others. Allow me to introduce myself and my creation. I'm Abby Britt, a proud member of the local community. I have two daughters: Avery, who is embarking on her journey to become a Physician Assistant at the University of Michigan-Flint, and Tessa, a senior at SLHS, set to join the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and play softball for them next fall. My husband, Rob, and I are excited to celebrate our 20th anniversary this year. As our girls keep us occupied with their school and sports activities, our huge, adorable golden retrievers do the same at home. Oliver is 8 and Thor is just 11 months old. We've cherished watching our daughters compete in high school sports and advance to collegiate athletics. We recognize and value the dedication required for student-athletes to develop into accomplished individuals.
My passion for helping others excel and reach their highest potential led me to become a Physical Therapist and volleyball coach. This same passion inspired me to innovate a new clothing concept. It's designed not just for aesthetics but to highlight a more crucial feature. Born from the idea of core awareness, this apparel enhances your well-being by boosting proprioceptive feedback from the shirt's internal sections. These targeted enhancement zones, named ‘CueLines,’ are strategically positioned to provide a subtle tactile reminder to activate your core and align your posture. In essence, it's attire that heightens your awareness at the CueLines, serving as a constant, personal Physical Therapist encouraging you to firm up your core. This is CUE Apparel! Apparel with a Purpose.
With over two decades as a Physical Therapist, I often educate my patients and student-athletes about the critical role of core strength. Many are unaware of what core engagement entails, or they quickly overlook its importance, leading to malalignment due to weakened muscles, spinal misalignment, or poor posture. The reliance on smartphones, tablets, and laptops exacerbates these issues, promoting poor posture habits that often stem from prolonged sitting or leaning forward.
Observing significant spinal injuries in some high school athletes prompted me to think about core strength solutions. I sought a product that wasn't merely a postural aid but one that actively engaged our muscles to correct spinal and core strength. My search found various devices and braces, yet none matched my criteria. I envisioned an item wearable during workouts or daily activities to remind us to engage our core. When my search proved fruitless, I decided to create it myself. Understanding that core strength enhances every other movement aspect, I designed CUE. CUE helps my daughters and other student-athletes in enhancing their athletic performance. It assists my patients recovering from injuries or pain in engaging their core for better mobility and reduced discomfort. CUE serves as a reminder for those spending hours at a desk to tighten their core and improve their posture. It's designed to counteract our slouching habits from device dependency. Ultimately, CUE is about leveraging apparel to help us achieve our strongest and most powerful selves.
CUE was honored to be selected as a participant in the SURGE Showcase and Start Garden 100 Demo Day competition in September. We were among 100 businesses chosen to showcase our startup, pitching our products, services, and business concepts to the Grand Rapids community. Also, a few weeks ago I was featured in a product educational segment on our local FOX TV news station with host, Andrea Schaner. Did you catch it? If not, you can always go to my Facebook page and view it. It was such a great experience!
I truly appreciate the connection that STROLL Spring Lake fosters within the community. Each issue offers intriguing topics on the families and businesses that contribute to our community's uniqueness. The stories are compelling, and the people are real!
Testimonials-
As a Trainer and fitness enthusiast, I notice a constant need and lack of core engagement during exercise which can cause injuries. After meeting with Abby and hearing the purpose behind the brand I was excited to try it out. Besides feeling like a 'Superhero' in their super suits, I instantly noticed the Cue lines sticking to the important muscles in my body that need intentional engagement. The apparel works just the way it should, cueing your mind and body to tighten the major areas that are not only going to prevent injury but also strengthen the body!-Jacob Okarski (The Yard Fitness)
As a Publisher, It seems like I'm constantly hovering over my computer. I wear my CUE tank to remind me not to slouch so much. But I also wear it to work out, go hiking, and play pickleball. You'll love this activewear and really feel it engaging your core. Not to mention it's pretty cool looking!-Alexis Hylarides (Stroll Spring Lake)
