Where did you grow up? Raj grew up in Hyderabad and completed his undergraduate studies in Chennai before moving to the United States, where he earned a Master’s in Computer Science from UIC and a Master’s in Financial Mathematics from UC. I, Dr. Savitha, grew up in Chennai, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy. After relocating to the United States, I pursued both my Master’s and Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences at UIC.

 

Tell us about your business and how did you get started? Our business, Skanda Jewelry, is a boutique collection of exquisitely crafted jewelry inspired by traditions from around the world. The journey of starting Skanda was a deeply personal one for Raj and me, born from our shared passion for blending creativity, self-expression, and fine craftsmanship. Jewelry-making became the perfect outlet for our love of art and design, allowing us to create pieces that are both meaningful and beautiful.

 

At Skanda, we believe that jewelry is far more than mere adornment—it’s a powerful expression of personal identity and individuality. Guided by this philosophy, we traveled the world, learning from and collaborating with master jewelers to refine our craft and create timeless, bespoke pieces of fine jewelry.

 

In addition to custom creations, we offer a wide range of ready-to-wear jewelry, ensuring that everyone can find something special to suit their taste and style. Our designs seamlessly marry traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation. With this foundation, we are committed to making luxury more accessible without compromising artistry or quality. What section of Stonebridge do you live in and how long have you lived in the neighborhood? We have proudly called Stonebridge home for the past 10 years, residing near The Pointe. This neighborhood is a true gem, with beautiful scenery, lush parks, and vibrant community spaces that make it a joy to live in. Our wonderful neighbors add to the warmth of the area, creating a welcoming and supportive environment that makes Stonebridge feel like home

 

Tell us about your family. We are the Munaga family, and we are delighted to introduce ourselves to our wonderful neighborhood. Raj and I have been happily married for 20 years, and together, we are proud to raise two wonderful daughters. Shivani, an aspiring sophomore at Metea Valley High School, and Manaswini, a creative student at Brooks Elementary School. Our family is completed by Simba, our beloved pet, whose playful spirit adds an extra layer of joy to our daily lives. We are excited to continue being a part of this incredible community and look forward to the many connections and memories to come!

 

What are your hobbies and interests? Both Raj and I share a passion for gardening, finding joy in cultivating our outdoor space. Raj also enjoys crafting furniture, creating unique pieces that blend functionality with artistry. As for me, I love to paint, dance, and stay actively involved in public activities. I thrive on being social, and dance, in particular, is a way for me to express myself and connect with others.
