Meet Our Resident Spunky Swimmer, Ashley Joe

In Edinburgh, it’s easy to spot rising stars — and 9-year-old Ashley Joe is certainly one of them. A bright and determined fourth-grader, Ashley has lived in Edinburgh for three years and says what she loves most about it is “the amazing people.”

Ashley swims with our Edinburgh Marlins in the summer and shines in the water year-round as a proud member of Chattahoochee Gold, a competitive swim team known for developing exceptional athletes. Ashley trains across all strokes but has already made a splash in competitions, earning 2nd place in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1st place in the butterfly.

“I love swimming because just getting in the water every day is super calming,” she says. “It also keeps me in shape and is just so much fun.”

Her swimming journey began when she was just four years old, and though it was a little scary at first, Ashley quickly fell in love with the sport. "I remember being nervous when I first got in the water, but then I got used to it and wanted to keep going," she recalls. "I'm so happy I chose to keep swimming."

Ashley admires Olympic champion swimmer Lily King, whose powerful performances inspire her every day. She credits her coach, Coach K, with being a positive force in her development: "Coach K is teaching me a lot—and she's fun!"

Balancing school and swim practice isn't always easy, but Ashley has it down to a science. "When I get home from school, I have just enough time to do homework and get ready for swim," she explains. Through the sport, she’s learned important life lessons about being prepared and staying organized — skills that will surely serve her well both in and out of the water.

Looking ahead, Ashley dreams of competing on the world stage. “My future goal is to become an Olympic breaststroke swimmer,” she says confidently.
When asked what advice she would give other young athletes in the neighborhood, Ashley offered wise words beyond her years: “Start small and don’t rush. If you practice, you can do amazing things.”

Ashley’s dedication, positive attitude, and love for her sport make her an inspiration to the Edinburgh community. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
