LOCAL FLAVOR

Meet the charcuterie chef whose business is taking the town by storm.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur? According to Hollyhock’s very own Ray Bray, the answer is consistency, discipline and to dream big.

For those who do not know Ray, she is the owner of Raynbow Eats LLC which offers authentic hummus, grazing boards and fruit cakes.  When asked about how she came up with her business plan, she attributed it to the downward turn of the economy during COVID.  With the forced closures, Ray stated she saw an opportunity to adjust their business model by featuring their hummus on grazing tables and platters, which helped increase their sales, exposure, and opened a new door for her to share her creativity and love for food styling. And it seems to be working well with 287k followers on Instagram.

When Ray started up Raynbow Eats, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Her main goal was “to make authentic hummus and share it with everyone so that people didn’t have to settle for Sabra.” And having spent most of her childhood in the Middle East, she knew her influences would help to accomplish this. As such, Ray offers 5 different flavors: authentic, spicy roasted pepper and herbs, artichoke, jalaparsley and chocolate (each one is delectable). Aside from Raynbow Eats online and local delivery options, you can also find their cuisine in Celina at The Nook CKMC and HeyDay as well as Graffiti Pasta in Denton.  Ray will even happily accommodate special requests and customizations.

Now let’s learn a little more about the Bray family. Ray moved to Plano 20 years ago where she met her husband, Aaron. They eventually made their way up to Frisco and claimed Hollyhock as their community. In Hollyhock, the Brays said they found a “neighborhood that provided accessibility to work, play and a strong sense of community”, which was exactly what they were looking for to expand their family. Therefore, they seized the moment and added two little girls (ages 1 and 2) to their tribe.  When asked how she juggles it all she said, “it’s really important to find a support system and to have a growth mindset; it will pay off”.

Ray and her business are a prime example of what a lot of grit and determination can accomplish. To start up such an endeavor in the middle of a historic pandemic, and not only have it succeeded, but to have it thrive, is an incredible accomplishment. If you need a grazing table or platter for an event, a fruit cake for a party or just some hummus for a snack, you will be missing out if you don’t order from Ray. Not only are you supporting a dream, but also a woman owned small business that takes pride in it’s beautiful and tasty products. Trust me, you will not regret it.
