Hollyhock's Favorite Neighbor Is Here
Frisco's hottest commodity created nation buzz immediately, and drew attention from many Hollyhock residents.

A lot of people moved to the Hollyhock area for the schools, safety, or another idyllic reason, but few imagined what would be neighboring them just next door. Filled with lush greens, restaurants, and watering holes, The Omni Hotel and PGA District have brought more than just commerce to the area. The properties have brought feelings of vacation, serenity, and fun just steps outside of Hollyhock’s entrance.
Not only has the PGA brought immense opportunities for shopping, dining, and fun for all, but it also of course brings golfers and golf enthusiasts as it hosts tournaments. The first of which was the KitchenAid PGA Senior Championship back in May. Fellow neighbor Denise Benedict found the championship to be the perfect family-friendly event. She and her family spent all day roaming the grounds and Denise was so happy that “the players were so good with the kids”, while they asked for autographs, and took time in between swings to chat. Emmy Grimes also attended the event, and as she visited her friends volunteering there she exclaimed “this is a wonderful event”!
Novita Rahmen had an opportunity to visit the KitchenAid PGA Senior Championship as well. When asked about her experience she commented “we just can’t believe such a beautiful place is right next to us”. Novita and her daughter, Nora, went to the Ice House, and then to Margaret’s Cones and Cups for an ice cream treat. They both “loved the vibe” of the PGA and Nora even said that “it feels like we are vacationing in Vermont” after spending the day walking around the property.
The PGA District could not have opened at a better time for the golf and hockey-loving enthusiasts, Shawna McCarty and her family. They have been “frequent fliers” at the new TopGolf for food and drinks since they opened. They also enjoyed watching Dallas Stars games on the big screen, a sure delight as they wowed us in the playoffs. When asked about their frequent visits, Shawna replied, “The PGA really does have something for everyone to enjoy”, adding; “we have thoroughly enjoyed every single time we have gone”. Shawna recommends the PGA District for every age, and every occasion, especially for watching the beauty of our Texas sunsets. “We are so glad to have this right in our backyard”, she says.
Some of our neighbors also jumped at the volunteer opportunities to help out at the recent PGA tournament. One of the best things about the spirit of Hollyhock is the amazing people that are always willing to give their time and energy to helping others. Our own Wanda Piland did just that at the Volunteer Shuttle Committee at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Tournament. She was not in it for the glory, driving a hot shuttle back and forth, but it did earn her the title of Volunteer of the Week, and a new KitchenAid mixer. When asked about her experience as a volunteer, Wanda said, “I worked the tournament for 4 days under the chair of Ed and Linda Kelly”, and she must have worked it very well to win her wonderful accolades for her service. Wanda liked her experience at the tournament, and grounds so much, that she has since returned to frequent some restaurants and one of the bars. She was able to explore the Omni Hotel Bar, and then attend a “sponsored happy hour” at Trick Rider. A much-deserved break, and visit, after 4 days in the hot Texas sun making sure neighbors and tournament attendees were ferried to safety.
The Omni and PGA District are an asset to our community. A walkable haven for date nights, play dates, staycations, and endless fun for the people of Frisco, and Hollyhock to enjoy. Whether you have fun swinging away at Top Golf, stop in for a beer at Ice House, or peruse all of the fun takeaway gifts at the Omni store, it offers a home away from home feel. Having this wonderful property just steps from our front doors marks one more reason why we are lucky to call Hollyhock our home.
