In honor of Women’s Month, we shine a spotlight on the strong, family-oriented community of Sugar Mill Pond. These mothers and daughters not only share unforgettable adventures and cherished traditions but also call this neighborhood home, living side by side and nurturing their bonds in a place where family truly comes first.

Carla Hoffmann, Amy Sovinsky, & Amber Kalwahali
“All of our trips are full of great memories. Teaching them history by visiting so many famous sites. My girls and I have been to the Vatican, the beaches of Normandy, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Eagle's Nest, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Mount Saint-Michel, and even Stonehenge in England. Every trip has been full of laughter, bonding, and blessings beyond belief.  This spring we plan on visiting Italy's Amalfi coast.I look forward to taking them to the ruins of Pompeii and relaxing in Capri and Positano!” - Carla

“We were in France one year and we love Paul the bakery, it's one of our favorites, so we knew we had to stop there one morning before our walk around town. We go in and order, come out all prepared to walk, and we hear splats fall all around us. Not knowing what it was, we looked around. It took us a few seconds but after my Mama C started yelling "OMG!", we realized a flock of pigeons just flew over us and Mama C was in the line of fire ha-ha! She was not happy in the moment, but now we all laugh about the memory.” - Amber

“I’ve learned from my mom that family is everything. My mom and sister have always been there for me no matter what, through the toughest times. No judgment, just love. I’ll always cherish our relationships.” - Amy

Donna & Kacey Loring
“The best piece of advice I’ve received from my mom is to get on with my life after becoming paralyzed. This advice came in many forms and many words over many years, but without her support I would not have made it through the challenges I faced after a very traumatic illness.” - Kacey

“Three words that I would describe Kac: resilient, ambitious, and kind.” - Donna

Kris Close and Barbie Miceli
“A perfect day for the two of us would include lunch at our favorite spot, Market Eatz where we would sit outside and enjoy the weather. Lunch would be followed by shopping around at some of our favorite stores and then drinks on her patio as we discuss our purchases of the day!” - Barbie

“We share the traditions of both graduating from the University of MN nursing school, we are both members of Delta Gamma sorority, and Barbie lived in the same room while at Delta Gamma as I did when I attended the University. We have a tradition of making Lefse every Christmas. It is a Scandinavian bread made of potatoes, butter, cream, milk, and flour. Barbie is the one who rolls the dough, then I bake it on a hot griddle.” - Kris

Barb Gayler and Jessie Morgan
“Our most memorable trips are really any road trips just the two of us take. Nashville and Austin always come to mind! It never fails— we get lost, almost run out of gas, laugh until we cry about the whole thing, repeat… we eventually make it!” - Jessie

“What have I learned about myself through Jessie? Oh, that I must have done something right raising that child of mine! A person of deep love of family and friends, honesty, strong character and a wonderful sense of humor (which she needs to raise her 3 strong little personalities)!” - Barb
