With Nancy's expertise as a Greece specialist, the trip became an extraordinary experience, bound by friendship and Greece's timeless allure.

Some travelers arrived early to explore Athens, visiting the Acropolis and strolling through the cobbled streets of Plaka. Their early experiences set the tone for the journey ahead. Guided tours of Athens immersed the group in tales of ancient philosophers, warriors, and gods. Some preferred a slower pace, shopping for local crafts and enjoying coffee at quaint cafés.

For many, the spiritual significance of Ephesus stood out. The Basilica of St. John, believed to be the final resting place of the Apostle St. John, offered a poignant moment of reflection. Equally moving, Meryem Ana, or the House of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is believed to be the final residence of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and is a revered pilgrimage site near the ancient city of Ephesus. Located on Mount Koressos, this serene sanctuary offers visitors a tranquil atmosphere to reflect on its spiritual significance and the enduring legacy of early Christianity.

The bustling Grand Bazaar offered a lively shopping experience, while evening cruises on the Bosphorus showcased Istanbul’s skyline illuminated by the setting sun.

The charming whitewashed village, with its narrow cobblestone streets and vibrant local culture, made Lindos the undeniable highlight of the journey, blending natural beauty with timeless elegance.
DAY 8: Crete: Land of Myths and Legends
Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, was the group’s next destination. The Palace of Knossos, located near Heraklion on the island of Crete, is the largest and most significant archaeological site of the ancient Minoan civilization, famously associated with King Minos and the myth of the Minotaur. Renowned for its intricate architecture, vibrant frescoes, and advanced engineering, Knossos offers a captivating glimpse into Bronze Age Greece and its sophisticated society.

From the ancient ruins of Athens and Ephesus to the vibrant streets of Istanbul, the serene beauty of Volos, and the stunning sunsets of Santorini, each destination offered something unique and unforgettable.
Final Thoughts & Suggestions by Nancy
Traveling through Greece by cruise ship and by land offers two distinct experiences. Cruises allow you to wake up in a new port each day, effortlessly hopping between islands, while land tours let you delve deeper into each destination.
When planning your trip, it's advisable to avoid Greece during the hottest months—typically July to early September—when temperatures can soar.
Nancy recommends Oia for its breathtaking sunsets and charming architecture and suggests riding the donkeys in Santorini for a unique and memorable experience. Lindos was the highlight of her trip, and she encourages not missing the chance to visit this historic town. For those who are religious, visiting sites like St. Paul's Bay and the Virgin Mary's church (Meryem Ana) added a special touch to the journey.
