Exterior Lighting Concepts was formed by three close friends—Joey Ham, Avery Mestayer, and Corey Halsell. Though they come from different professional backgrounds, they all share a passion for entrepreneurship. The trio came together thanks to their wives, who have been lifelong friends from New Iberia. Despite their diverse experiences, they’ve found common ground in their love for outdoor living, entertaining, and creative lighting.

Joey Ham is originally from Many, LA, and holds an engineering degree from LSU. He has spent most of his career in the oil and gas industry and lives in Lafayette with his wife, Lyndi, and their son, Thomas, with another child on the way. Joey has always been fascinated with the technical side of things, and his role supporting electricians in the plant industry provided him with the experience needed to dive into exterior lighting. When not at work, Joey is an avid fisherman who loves spending weekends at Toledo Bend and other nearby lakes.

Avery Mestayer has worked in the electrical industry for over 15 years, gaining extensive experience in both residential and commercial projects. Avery is married to his high school sweetheart, Danielle, and they have three children: Viola, Eloise, and Isaac. Avery's deep expertise in electrical systems, paired with his hardworking nature, has been critical to the success of ELC. His knowledge of the industry is the reason ELC can offer seamless, reliable service across a variety of lighting needs. When he's not working, Avery loves to spend his free time hunting waterfowl.

Corey Halsell is originally from Lafayette but now resides in New Iberia. He attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, where he played golf and earned a degree in Business Management. Like Joey, Corey has worked in the oil and gas industry since 2013, specifically handling low and high-voltage systems offshore. This experience with electrical systems, paired with his love for outdoor entertaining, led Corey to see the potential of exterior lighting. He now brings that passion to ELC. Corey lives with his wife and newborn daughter, Nora, and, like Avery, enjoys hunting in his spare time.

With Avery’s hands-on knowledge of the electrical industry and Joey and Corey’s backgrounds in technical support and electrical systems, these three friends turned their passion into a business. ELC was born out of a few home lighting projects and years of working with close clients before they decided to go all in.
