Joe Mansfield, Senior Vice President
- Investment Officer, Wells Fargo Advisors
In an ever-changing and perplexing world of investments, Joe Mansfield has become one of the go-to wealth managers in the region as senior vice president/investment officer at Wells Fargo Advisors. His tenure in the business began in April of 1987, just before the infamous “Black Monday” when the market dropped precipitously. He has built a core group of clients from that time who he feels appreciate his steady hand.
His clients are primarily focused on generating stable, predictable income. He uses software that helps determine the proper investment allocation that is in alignment with his client’s tolerance for risk and volatility. After a thorough analysis of a client’s financial resources for their lifestyle, he then begins to discuss legacy planning. Joe asks these key questions: How is your current estate plan structured? Is there a more tax-efficient strategy to pass the wealth you have accumulated over decades to those you love and the charities that you support?
Joe’s clients appreciate his sensitivity to their own unique circumstances. There is a misperception that wealthy individuals don’t have financial challenges and concerns. Many of his clients accumulated their wealth as small business owners or professionals. While they were successful in their chosen careers, that does not necessarily mean they don’t need help managing the wealth they have accumulated. “I enjoy helping my clients navigate through the turbulent markets as tax laws and shifts in the economy require new ideas and strategies,” he adds.
The current economic volatility and uncertainty have caused many of Joe’s clients to reassess their financial goals and objectives. As the Federal Reserve increases interest rates to combat against inflation, this creates both financial opportunities and risks. As interest rates rise, bonds may become a more attractive investment asset. Conversely, the stock values will be compressed. Long-term planning starts with the basics — income and expenses and asset allocation.
Joe has earned two advanced industry designations from the American College of Financial Services — Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).[1]
His clients appreciate Joe’s expert customized planning process. He has a stellar track record providing investment advice for his clients and their families as the economy and the markets shift.
Joe was raised in Portland. He says his favorite childhood memory is a family trip around the U.S. After graduating from Santa Clara University, he returned to Portland. He had long been interested in economics and finance, which led to pursuing a career in the financial services industry while living in Portland. He was hired by the Wells Fargo Advisors regional manager in Portland with the knowledge he would move to Bend and develop his wealth advisory practice.
Joe moved to Bend in May of 2004. He is active in the Bend and Broken Top. He has been a member of the Broken Top Club since 2011 and an active participant in the Bandits golf group. He is also the current president of the High Desert Region Porsche Club. This is a group of approximately 450 active and enthusiastic club members. “Throughout the year, we plan driving events and tech sessions. The club driving events include Saturday morning drives throughout Central Oregon or extended weekend tours to more distant locations throughout the Northwest.” Joe is always on the lookout for new Porsche owners to join the club.
Joe recently returned from a trip to Italy, where he joined a tour focusing on the Supercars of Italy. “We toured the museums of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Pagani. We toured both the museum and factory of Maserati. Even though I’m a Porsche guy, those Italy cars are beautiful! I can wait to explore other parts of Italy.”
Joe enjoys a causal meal at the Noi Restaurant, but he’s always on the lookout for new cuisine in Bend. He has fond memories of dining at Duke’s in La Jolla. One of Joe’s favorite movies is The Hunger Games. He is currently rereading To Kill a Mockingbird. His greatest joy is when a client or friend asks for advice, and his favorite pastime is driving fast cars. Joe respects Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin L. King. He admires Ben Shapiro of The Ben Shapiro Show.
