Meet the Makie Family!

Hello! Our names are Ashley and Kevin Makie. We live on Raymond Hall drive with our son, Derek, daughter Peyton and our two dogs; Wilfred and Walter.

Where are you originally from?
Ashley and Kevin are both from Mansfield, MA and began dating their sophomore year of high school. They continued dating through college and eventually moved to Brighton for a few years before purchasing a one-bedroom home in Norfolk. After having their first son and adopting their second dog they knew they needed more space. Their realtor had family ties to the Cliffs and as a result she could really speak to the extraordinary community that existed here. We were very drawn the first time we looked at the house by the number of kids playing outside and people out on walks and runs!

Where did you attend college?
College brought us both to Connecticut where Kevin attended Trinity College and Ashley attended Connecticut College. They loved sports growing up and both ended up doing Track and Field in college. After college Ashley went to Tufts University for grad school to become a Physician Assistant. Needless to say, we love the NESCAC schools.

Where do you work?
Currently, Ashley works as a Physician Assistant at Brigham and Women’s in orthopedic surgery – specifically hip and knee replacements. She loves seeing local patients in clinic up at the stadium in Foxboro.  Kevin works for his family-owned company, Collins Surgical/Sports Medicine in Brockton, MA and would love to help any neighbor that may require medical equipment or supplies.

Tell us about your family:
We were married up at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire in 2019. Our son Derek is three years old and is a very active and silly boy. He attends daycare in Mansfield and loves all outdoor activities, as well as a good Disney movie. He is excited to start soccer at Forekicks this fall! His baby sister, Peyton, was born this past June. She is such a lovely baby and has been the best addition to our family! Wilfred is a pittie that we rescued in his later. He is 15 and such a good boy! His little brother Walter is a mutt who we rescued during the pandemic and is full of energy!

How long have you lived in the neighborhood?
We moved in October of 2021 and immediately after the realtor handed us the keys, we began the demo process. We knew the former resident had raised a family of five kids in this home and felt lucky that we were going to be able to do the same. Upon renovating we found quite a few cool scribblings on the wall of messages from family members when the house was originally being built!

Favorites:
Vacation: Ashley’s family has a home on Lake Winnipesaukee. It has become tradition to spend time up there in the summer. We have made many wonderful memories and it’s even more exciting that we now get to share these with our children. We enjoy activities like bringing the kids go-karting, hiking with the dogs, rafting and watching fireworks and getting ice cream by boat, especially on the fourth of July.
Activities: We are big Patriots fans in this family and always attend opening day with a group of friends! We love a fall Sunday whether we go to the game or make a lot of snacks to watch by a fire at home!
Family: Our longest standing family tradition is pizza every Friday night – no exceptions!
Local favorites: Buffalo chicken pizza from Lord has quickly become a favorite, as well as pizza from Towne tavern. Tasty’s also never lets us down – we will frequent there on the weekends for their breakfast sandwiches, coffee, sandwiches for lunch, as well as when we need a healthy option with their smoothies and bowls. For a nice night out, we love Cibo in Mansfield.
