Helping Students Thrive: Kelly Olsen-Guyant and The Tutoring Club
Bringing 20 Years of Teaching Experience and a Passion for Learning to Thornwood Families
Kelly Olsen-Guyant, the owner of The Tutoring Club in Elgin, isn’t just a seasoned educator—she’s a mother, wife, and advocate for the importance of education in every aspect of life. With over two decades of teaching experience across all grade levels, from Kindergarten to college, Kelly holds a Master's degree in Mathematics Education from National-Louis University. Her career has been driven by a passion for helping students not just succeed academically but also develop a genuine love for learning.
Kelly’s journey is as much about her personal life as it is her professional one. Married to her husband for seven years, the couple shares a life enriched by their son, who is in 8th grade this year, and their five beloved pets—three cats and two dogs. Her home life is filled with love and balance, and it’s this same nurturing approach that she brings to her work at The Tutoring Club. Coming from a family-oriented background, Kelly has always found fulfillment in caring for others, and her decision to venture into tutoring was a natural progression of her career.
Throughout her teaching career, Kelly has worked with many tutoring companies, but she always felt that The Tutoring Club stood out for its student-centered approach. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the education system, Kelly saw firsthand the toll it took on parents, students, and teachers alike. This fueled her desire to open her own Tutoring Club location, knowing that the need for individualized attention and support would be greater than ever.
At The Tutoring Club, Kelly and her team offer comprehensive tutoring services for grades K-12, as well as some college-level subjects. Their curriculum focuses on skill-building in essential areas like reading, writing, and math, but they are equipped to support students across a wide range of subjects. They also offer ACT and SAT test preparation, helping students feel confident and prepared for these important exams. Kelly’s years of teaching experience allow her to offer a unique perspective and deeper understanding of how to meet the needs of both students and their families.
While Kelly enjoys the challenges of being a business owner, her true passion remains in helping students grow academically and enjoy the learning process. Her ability to empathize with both students and parents, combined with her professional expertise, makes The Tutoring Club a trusted resource for families in Elgin.
The Tutoring Club is also committed to building strong community ties. Kelly has forged partnerships with local businesses, including White Cottage Pizza, DuPage Airport, and Hampshire Park District. As an active member of the Elgin Chamber of Commerce, she continues to expand her network and create meaningful connections. One of her most impactful contributions to the community is the free tutoring event she hosts on the first Friday of each month. This event provides local students with access to homework help, a meal, and social interaction—technology-free—making it an invaluable resource for families who may otherwise not be able to afford tutoring services.
As the back-to-school season begins, Kelly and her team are excited to participate in local events such as District 301’s Back to the Hill and Corron Elementary’s Fall Fundraiser. Kelly’s advocacy extends beyond the classroom as she encourages parents to reduce their children’s screen time and instead promote reading, writing, and traditional learning methods. For Kelly, education isn’t just a job—it’s a calling, and she is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of every student who walks through her doors.
