The Red Poppy Bistro
A Culinary Gem Bringing Tradition and Community Together
Thornwood residents and business clients discovered the charm and culinary delights of The Red Poppy Bistro, a new hidden gem in South Elgin. Located at 322 Randall Road, this delightful bistro, owned by the warm and welcoming Matt and Jennifer Habib, serves up traditional European fare with a unique American twist.
Stepping into The Red Poppy Bistro feels like a journey back in time, where every dish tells a story. The restaurant's signature schnitzel is perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, a true testament to their dedication to homemade goodness. The homemade perogies, a beloved family recipe passed down through generations, are a must-try, bursting with flavor in every bite. For those with a sweet tooth, the delicate and delicious crepes are sure to impress.
Open from 7 AM to 10 PM Monday through Thursday, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, The Red Poppy Bistro is perfect for any meal or a late-night treat. Sundays are a little shorter, closing at 9 PM. While the restaurant does not yet offer a happy hour, weekly specials, or catering services, the promise of homemade food and warm hospitality makes every visit special.
The Red Poppy Bistro's story is rooted in tradition. Originally opened by Jennifer’s mother, Zofia Polit, in Chicago, the bistro carries forward a legacy of authentic, family-inspired Polish and European cuisine. Now, in South Elgin, Jennifer and Matt are passionately continuing this tradition, creating a cozy, old-world bistro where the community can gather and enjoy.
Recently, they hosted a special event where business clients and residents attended, bringing the community together in a celebration of good food and camaraderie.
