Rosie's Yard Signs Brightens Thornwood Celebrations

Stay-at-home mom Rocio Martinez turns creative idea into a successful small business

Rocio Martinez, a dedicated stay-at-home mom from Thornwood, found a unique way to blend her creative spirit with her family responsibilities. Three and a half years ago, she launched Rosie's Yard Signs, a business that creates eye-catching yard cards for special occasions. During the pandemic, the demand for yard cards surged, providing Rocio with the perfect opportunity to start a business that fits seamlessly into her schedule while she raises her boys.

Rosie's Yard Signs has grown significantly thanks to the incredible support from the Thornwood community. Rocio acknowledges that their success is deeply rooted in the encouragement and opportunities provided by their neighbors. This community spirit has allowed them to become experts in their field, contributing to countless special moments for their clients.

One of the most rewarding aspects of their work is the joy of surprising someone on their special day. Often, the yard signs are a delightful surprise for recipients, making birthdays and other celebrations extra special with a big, colorful display greeting them as they step outside in the morning.

Rocio and her team are part of yard carder groups nationwide, continuously learning and growing by connecting with other successful businesses. Their journey began with a significant first customer—the Bartlett Fire Department—which requested three signs simultaneously. Since then, they have generously supported local events, including those at Corron Elementary and various South Elgin gatherings.

As the new school year approaches, Rosie's Yard Signs is excited to continue spreading love and support throughout the community. Rocio's experience demonstrates that with a supportive community and a willingness to learn from successful mentors, anything is possible.
