A Rising Volleyball Star

Meet Kaylee Haehnel

Kaylee Haehnel, a talented 14-year-old volleyball player from Thornwood, has been making waves in the local sports scene. Having lived in Thornwood since 2013, Kaylee enjoys the community's amenities, like the pool, and the close proximity to her friends. As an eighth grader at Wredling Middle School, she expertly balances her academic and athletic commitments.

Kaylee's volleyball journey began in the fourth grade, inspired by watching her cousins play the sport. She now plays rightside for Club Fusion and her school team, with summers dedicated to beach volleyball. This versatility and passion have fueled her growth and success in the sport.

One of Kaylee's standout moments came in 2023 when her eighth-grade team clinched the conference championship after an undefeated season. This victory underscored her dedication and skill, as well as her ability to thrive in a team environment. "I get my homework done right away so I have time for sports after school," Kaylee explains, highlighting her disciplined approach.

Mentorship has been pivotal in Kaylee's development as an athlete. She credits her seventh-grade coach, Mr. Gabel, with playing a significant role in her growth, teaching her to learn from her mistakes and improve continuously.

Looking ahead, Kaylee has ambitious plans. She hopes to continue playing volleyball throughout high school and eventually pursue a college education in law. Her advice to others reflects her own mindset: "Never doubt your abilities and be confident in whatever you do." With her talent, determination, and positive outlook, Kaylee Haehnel is poised for success both on and off the volleyball court.
