Meet Marisa Cesario: A Visionary Hair Colorist and Salon Owner

Our Good Neighborhood Expert Marisa Cesario has turned her lifelong creativity into a thriving career as a hair colorist and co-owner of Lush Salon and Suites. For Marisa, Thornwood's peaceful yet fun atmosphere, filled with families and neighbors who support one another, makes it the perfect place to live, work, and grow.
Marisa’s journey into the beauty industry was unexpected but transformative. A natural artist and musician, she discovered her calling during a visit to beauty school, guided by her mother and grandmother. Though she had never considered a career in hair, Marisa excelled quickly, mastering the chemistry of hair color. Her talent and drive earned her the title of Zano’s top producer across four locations at just 24 years old.
Her entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to dream bigger. After renting a suite to build her clientele, Marisa asked herself, “Why not be the owner?” At 28, she turned that dream into reality, teaming up with her best friend, Cindy, to open Lush Salon and Suites in downtown Geneva.
Running a salon brings both joys and challenges. Marisa cherishes the daily variety of her work and the opportunity to help others feel beautiful, but she’s also had to adapt quickly to unexpected problems—like relighting the pilot light on the hot water heater, in the middle of January, to ensure hot water for her 15 tenants. These experiences have honed her problem-solving skills and deepened her appreciation for resilience.
A firm believer in ongoing education, Marisa trains with the best in the industry. She’s a certified Redken Colorist, a distinction held by just 3% of stylists, and an IBE extension specialist, a title that required rigorous training and interviews. She has studied at the Redken Exchange in Manhattan and learned advanced techniques from celebrity artist Tracey Cunningham, known for styling stars like Jennifer Lopez and the Kardashians.
Beyond her professional achievements, Marisa has a heart for giving back. As a survivor of childhood domestic violence, she has supported organizations like Mutual Ground. Marisa performed her own original song “Warrior” at their gala to inspire others.
This November, she celebrates three years of Lush Salon and Suites and is preparing to expand to a second location. Marisa’s advice is simple yet powerful: “Work hard on your passion, and your destined life will follow.” As a testament to her unwavering commitment and vision, Marisa is managing a thriving business where positivity, hard work, and creativity flourish.
She feels grateful to call Thornwood home, a community that inspires her to keep growing. With a blend of artistry, perseverance, and gratitude, Marisa Cesario is a shining example of what it means to be a true neighbor and expert in her field.
