Anne Zimmerman Briand Unveils Captivating Gulf Coast Artwork at Mainsail Art Festival

“I’ve had a passion for art ever since I was a kid,” says Tierra Verde resident Anne Zimmerman Briand. “I always loved painting and started exhibiting my work as a teenager.”

This talented artist studied at Savannah College of Art and Design. At the time, the job market was booming for designers, so for the first part of her career, she worked as a graphic artist, making her way up the creative ladder in various agencies on the East Coast. “It was a great start to my career, and I worked with amazing people who taught me so much,” she comments.

After almost two decades, she wanted a more meaningful profession. She wanted to connect more to her personal passion, fine art. Launching into her second career as a full-time artist was her dream come true.

“My first career taught me a lot about work ethic and marketing which I have been able to take with me into this chapter of life as an artist,” she points out. “A lot of artists are introverted and don’t like to talk about what they do. It’s hard to put yourself out there sometimes, but if we don’t talk about what we do, no one will ever know!”

Showcasing Her Work

Renowned for her distinctive bold, gestural brushwork and thick, juicy palette knife textures, Anne unveiled her 2023 series titled "ETHEREALITY" at the Mainsail Art Festival in April. The series debuted with fifteen popular custom framed mini plein air Gulf Coast sunset paintings along with several oversized landscape paintings, providing a wide range of sizes to accommodate various living spaces.

All her artwork is created using premium artist oils, handmade imported brushes, hand-stretched canvas, and other high-quality materials.

About Anne

“I paint here on the island,” says Anne. She loves capturing the sunset from the bridge to Fort DeSoto, by working en plein air. “There’s something very soulful about painting on the scene in direct response to the environment as it is changing,” she explains. “At sunset, the colors change so fast you must move in sync with nature, which can be very challenging! But to witness the sunset, hear the birds (and an occasional dolphin exhale), and feel the breeze on your skin while painting is total icing on the cake. I love this job.”

When asked what it’s all for, she says, “It seems like everyone is so busy and stressed these days, with technology dominating everything. I want to help people escape from all that noise. I hope my art says to them, “Come with me…let’s get lost in these layers and textures of paint and celebrate this magical place we get to call home.”
