Valley View Farm: A Legacy of Tradition and Innovation
Spring has Sprung with the "Kids"
Peter and Elizabeth (Liz) Mulholland started Valley View Farm in 1998, on a farm that was
in Liz’s family for generations. They live in the 1830s farmhouse along with other family
members with great views of the Ipswich River, the town of Topsfield, and the rolling hills of
Essex County. It is the only working dairy in Topsfield and one of only a few licensed
cheese producers in Essex County. They produce handcrafted milk cheeses for fine food
establishments and have some available for purchase in their store. Operating on the honor
system, customers pay for their products with either cash or Venmo.
The farm also raises chickens and eggs, produces maple syrup from their own and
neighboring trees, and keeps bees for local honey. They source local products from nearby
farmers and sell such specialties as kimchi, pickles, baked goods, mushrooms, soaps, and
lotions. Valley View Farm is also a weekly pick-up destination for Cape Ann Fresh and fresh
seafood from Gloucester. The farm is always on the lookout for new and local products of
high quality.
Spring is the time when the goats are having babies, and they usually have ninety to one
hundred kids each year! Their herd is exclusively Anglo-Nubian and bred for health and milk
production. The kids are bottle-fed, friendly, well socialized, and graze on pasture grass and
good feed. These kids are great fun to visit and once mature will be available for sale.
In addition to animal husbandry and being the farm equipment mechanic, Peter is a
graduate of the University of New Hampshire, and Chief Investment Officer for Topsfield’s
Essex Private Wealth Management. Liz studied History at Bowdoin College and Historic
Preservation at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also on the Topsfield Historical
Society’s Board of Directors.
Valley View Farm is located at 278 High Street, Topsfield, MA 01983. Their store is open
