Prince: A Star Is Born
Introducing the one, the only, Mr. Prince who went from orphan to stardom without even trying. His life journey has been one that other dogs could only dream of. Here is his story as told by his owners, Devin DeVasquez and Ronn Moss, a story about a tiny dog with a big personality.
A New Beginning
Prince is a 2 ½-pound Chorke, one half long-hair Chihuahua and one half Tea Cup-sized Yorkshire Terrier, best known as a “Yorkie” and originally named Spencer. Sadly, Spencer’s first owners were killed in an auto accident and he and a second larger dog were brought to the Shelter Hope Pet Shop, a non-profit dog rescue in Thousand Oaks, California. Devin was good friends with the Shelter's owner, Kim Sill who worked hard to convince Devin to foster the two-year-old dog to see if there was a good match.
Devin remembered her thoughts on seeing the pup, “Ronn had always said, ‘I hope you never become one of those women who have a purse dog.’ And, here he was the tiniest dog I’d ever seen. He reminded me of Singer, Songwriter and Rock Star Prince who I knew quite well, both small in stature but big in personality. So, I renamed him Prince and took him home. While Ronn initially objected, it didn’t take very long before Prince won him over and we adopted him.” Ronn added, “I kept whispering in Devin’s ear that Prince was really a German Sheppard that had stepped into a washing machine full of hot water and shrunk.”
Hollywood and Beyond
When your parents are in the entertainment business, you get to be part of the Hollywood scene. Devin was a model and actress over the past 25 years. She appeared in over 100 commercials, had numerous roles in film and television including Can’t Buy me Love and Society, was chosen as Playboy’s June, 1985 Playmate of the Month and modeled/hosted the first television talent show Star Search with Ed McMahon. Prince’s dad, Ronn, is an actor, musician and singer/songwriter and a member of the former band, Player, perhaps best known for their song, Baby, Come Back. He is most recognized for his role as Ridge Forrester, the fashion magnate on the CBS soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful, from 1987 to 2012. Prince has been with Devin and Ronn for almost eight years traveling with them to seventeen countries. He has captured the attention of celebrities around the world including Priscilla Presley, Daryl Hannah and Clint Eastwood, just to name a few who instantaneously fell in love with him. He walked the Red Carpet at a LA showing of a Clint Eastwood movie decked out in an Italian custom designed tuxedo and, last but not least, was the “Poster Dog” for Shelter Hope Rescue. He has over 100,000 followers on Instagram who know him as Mr. Prince. He is a Star.
Aside from his notoriety, Prince is just a down to earth dog. He loves to be “on the go” and frequent restaurants, especially in Italy where Devin, Ronn and Prince reside for several months of the year. Devin said he can be quite comical describing how he takes a piece of food and tosses it around before eating it. “He only has three teeth”, added Devin, “so we think he is trying to soften it up.” According to Devin, Prince has a special connection with Ronn, “He sleeps with him, rides with him on his motorcycle and loves to hear Ronn play his music. He even gets jealous when Ronn kisses me.”
Little doubt, Prince is a magnet. Seems everyone wants to touch him, take a photo with him. He might just be the most “petted” pup in the world. For Devin and Ronn, their relationship with Prince is a “mutual admiration society”. The couple summed it up saying, “We’re all in this together and wouldn’t change a thing.”
Devin and Ronn currently live in Troon Fairways.
