East Valley Urgent Pet Care

A Journey of Passion and Veterinary Care

Where did you grow up?  How long have you lived in the area?  Tell us about your family
I grew up in Buffalo, NY, where my early years were filled with a deep love for animals. Moving to the Phoenix area for my internship marked a significant turning point, and I’ve come to embrace this region as my new home. My husband and I have made a life here that we’re both proud of, and the support of my family—particularly my parents back in Buffalo—has been a constant source of strength. Their guidance, combined with their own business experience, has been a beacon for me throughout my career. The love and encouragement from my close-knit family have been instrumental in shaping who I am today, both personally and professionally.

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now.
My entire life I was always fascinated with the sciences. I grew up in a home with a wide variety of pets including cats, dogs, birds, a turtle, lizard, and other various creatures. Along with a love of travel, this ultimately led me to veterinary school in Scotland.

While in veterinary college, my personal pet faced a serious and unexpected emergency. Our multiple visits to the emergency vet was often met with a lack of urgency, leaving us feeling helpless and frustrated. It was only when a dedicated intern stepped in and advocated fiercely for my dog that we finally received the crucial care she needed. This experience deeply moved me and shaped my approach to veterinary care.

Driven by a desire to provide the same level of dedication and support that made such a difference for my pet and I, I continued my education by completing an emergency medicine focused internship in the Phoenix area. This internship provided me with an exceptional array of experience and insight into veterinary emergency medicine as well as other specialties. After completion of my internship, I stayed on with the emergency hospital for many years. Relocating to the East Valley for an internship was a key moment, and it ultimately led me to open East Valley Urgent Pet Care. My mission has been to ensure that every pet and owner receives compassionate, attentive care, customized to their needs,  just like I finally did all those years ago.

What is your business, how/why did you start your business?
Starting East Valley Urgent Pet Care was born out of my experience in veterinary emergency medicine and the challenges I saw during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ill pets and their concerned owners were waiting hours (sometimes 12+ hours) for care that wasn’t considered a life threatening  emergency, but would be classified as an urgent situation.I knew there had to be a better way. I wanted to create a space that provided timely, high-quality care without the stress and long waits. While formulating a business plan, I spent a year working as a full-time relief style veterinarian. During this time, I was able to soak in the diversity of veterinary medicine and combine the best of the best to create the ideal urgent care facility. With support from my family, friends, and incredible staff, we opened our doors in January 2023.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to the residents?
As a small business owner - I will always encourage people to support your local business community. The care and quality is unmatched and much more personalized, be it food service, clothing boutiques, to other essential services, and medical care. There is so much value in a small business expert.

As a Veterinarian, if you ever are thinking your pet might need care, then it does. Do not hesitate or delay getting your pet care. Trust your gut. Sometimes, something that seems small, can actually be the beginning of a serious problem. If you wait too long, unfortunately, it may be too late to help.

Additionally, as a pet owner, I strongly encourage all pet owners to establish a relationship with a trusted primary care veterinarian that aligns with your needs. Communication and prioritizing preventative medicine can save you so much money and heartache in the future. Regular visits are key! If you ever have a question about your pets needs, you have a trusted place to call. In the case they are not available, remember you can call East Valley Urgent Pet Care.

What else should we know about you, your family, or your business?
