Greek Guys Souvlaki: A Culinary Journey from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale

Discover the Story Behind Victoria Park’s New Greek Eatery

Greek Guys Souvlaki, an amazing restaurant located in the Gateway Shopping Center in Victoria Park, opened in August of 2023.

Owners Tony and Victoria Vourliotis, who hail from Montreal, Canada, started coming to Fort Lauderdale in 2009.

“I like the sun and the beach. I like the people – a lot of nice people. I like the way of life,” Tony says.

The lack of Greek food or counter service with Greek food inspired them to open Greek Guys Souvlaki.

“You don’t have to pay white table prices for a good plate of food. You can come in and order; and, within 5-7 minutes, your food is ready! This is the flagship store. I want to open up more but before I can do that, I want to make sure that I have perfected everything,” Tony says.

Tony and Victoria have been married for 34 years. They have two successful children. One is a computer engineer, and the other is also in the culinary arts.

When Tony was 17 years old, he started working in Victoria’s father’s restaurant which got him headed in an industry that he loves.

“I love to create dishes and to cook,” Tony says.

Over his career, he worked for many different restaurants as a chef, line cook, prep cook, dishwasher and waiter.

“I have done all of it,” Tony says.

With his vast experience in the restaurant field, Tony has created a structure in his restaurant that is high on quality with the product and ingredients along with providing outstanding customer service.

“We take great pride in the preparation of the food and our service,” Tony says.

Tony, a successful businessman, has been involved with multiple businesses. This includes the day care industry. In Canada, the day cares in Quebec were government subsidized. They were very profitable businesses. For 15 years, Tony was in the daycare business while his kids were growing up.

Tony was also involved with an online toy company which sold action figures, toys, cards and memorabilia. “We started off on eBay. Then, we opened up our own website and then our own warehouse,” Tony says.

Greek Guys Souvlaki was not his first restaurant as he owned a three location hand crafted burger shop, which was very popular, and had an enclosed butcher shop right when you walked in.

“To have a concept where you walk in and see a butcher chopping fresh meat and he takes that meat and puts in on the grill – that is a great concept,” Tony says.

Tony’s experience really does matter. Even though Greek Guys Souvlaki hasn’t been open long, there is already a great following that is being created.

Tony takes pride when a customer comes in and orders, takes out and goes home and calls the store and says, “This is the best meal I’ve ever had in my life.”

“That makes your job so much more pleasant,” Tony says.

Tony is grateful that he has a great team in place, a supportive family and that he has his health.

He attributes his success to hard work. “I don’t leave things lingering. Everything that is in front of you – you have to take care of it right away,” Tony says. “At the end of the day, I believe anyone who puts their mind to do whatever they want – as long as you apply yourself, you’re going to be successful.”
