Helping People Live Healthier Lives - Dr. Dominick Ranieri, D.C.

How can I improve my overall health and wellness?
To elevate your overall health and wellness, there is no ONE single thing we can do, however,
there are a few things each one of us can do to maximize our health today! First, it is incredibly important for people to understand the concept of Spinal Hygiene and how it is one of the most important factors concerning our overall health. This is because the spine is the protective structure for your nervous system, which controls all functions within the body. So, by getting regular chiropractic care and doing things like specialized spinal hygiene exercises, you can boost your body's natural ability to do what it needs to do to keep you healthy and help to enhance your natural healing processes. The second major factor in maintaining health and wellness is a nutritious diet filled with colorful fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins to fuel your body with essential nutrients. Lastly, complement these with regular exercise, such as yoga or jogging in the fresh air, where the sunlight will help you soak up vital vitamin D, boosting your mood and immune system!

What are the best ways to lose weight safely and effectively?
Losing weight safely and effectively becomes an achievable goal when you combine a spinal
hygiene regimen, a balanced diet rich in whole foods, and regular physical activity. It takes
discipline, but it’s easy and it is worth it. Just imagine yourself being able to do more of the
things you love, such as walking on the beach, riding your bike in the park, swimming, or playing pickleball with friends!

These activities accompanied by a healthy nutritious diet of whole foods, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables will aid in weight loss and maintenance. A great book on a healthy diet that I recommend to my patients is called “The Paleo Cardiologist” by Dr. Jack Wolfson goes into great detail about what foods help you lose weight and address your heart health while doing so. Don’t forget that regular chiropractic adjustments are an excellent way to maintain spinal hygiene and help to maximize your body’s ability to heal itself and adapt, meaning you have a greater level of mobility, which makes it easier to stay active and keep your motivation going! Lastly, it’s important down here in South Florida to take advantage of the benefits of outdoor activities where you can bask in sunlight and naturally increase your vitamin D levels, supporting overall weight loss and wellness.

How much exercise do I need each week?
According to the Mayo Clinic, for optimal health, you need to try to get at least 150 minutes of
moderate exercise per week. I find it best to focus on doing activities that you love, such as
morning jogs in the park, energizing yoga sessions, a leisurely game of golf, or even dancing.
Each moment spent moving, not only strengthens your body, but also allows you to enjoy the
outdoors and soak up essential vitamin D. If you want to truly maximize your physical
performance and prevent injuries, consider incorporating chiropractic care into your routine.
Almost every professional athlete on the planet, including Football legends like Jerry Rice,
swear by it. Rice once said, “Chiropractic care is essential for keeping me in the best condition
so I can perform at an optimal level.”

When are the best and worst times to be in the sun in South Florida?
In South Florida, the optimal times to soak up the sun are early in the morning before 10 AM
and late in the afternoon after 4 PM. As highlighted by Dr. Mercola and the MSD Manual,
stepping outside during sunrise without sunglasses can be particularly beneficial. This is
because our retinas absorb a significant portion of the daily required vitamin D at this time. This
sunlight exposure stimulates the optic nerve, which in turn activates your circadian rhythm and
helps your body produce melanin. Melanin not only provides a natural defense against UV
radiation but also reduces the likelihood of sunburn. By aligning your outdoor activities with
these peak times, you can enhance your body's natural protective mechanisms and enjoy a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
