Meet Shelby!
Each month, we will introduce you to the fabulous animals helping so many with disabilities and hope you will fall in love as we have. These are truly special horses and we are honored to tell their stories.
Did you know you can sponsor a therapy horse at Bakas Equestrian Center?
Our sweet Shelby, a Quarter Horse, is the oldest member of the Bakas herd at 30 years old. She has been with Bakas for nearly 10 years and has been such a valuable member of the team since that time. Shelby spent much of her life competing as a hunter jumper and then spent some time as a pasture pet before finding her way to becoming a therapy horse. Despite her age, Shelby still actively participates in the program and absolutely loves a good trail ride! She also enjoys her time in the pasture with her friends Mystery, Penny, and Halle.
Sponsorship is $250/month or $3,000/year for one horse's care, or shoe maintenance for $133/month or $1,600/year. Bakas Horses for Handicapped is a 501(c)3 organization that provides financial support for therapeutic horseback riding activities for disabled children and adults. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, most donations are tax deductible after consulting with your tax advisor.

Michelle Letter lives in Waterchase with her husband, children, and rescue greyhound and works from home doing medical-legal consulting. As a way to give back to the community, she draws on her nursing background and love of horses to volunteer regularly with Bakas and recently joined the Board of Directors.
