Guided by its mission “to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives,” the American Heart Association continues to inspire countless individuals like Chenal resident Ava Kordsmeier, whose journey with the organization began at an exceptionally young age and remains a central part of her life today.
Ava’s involvement with the AHA started with her first Heart Walk when she was just one year old. Her mother, driven by the loss of her own mother to a heart attack, instilled in Ava a deep passion for heart health and advocacy. Together, they participated in Heart Walks, mailed materials to raise awareness, and supported the organization’s mission.
As an AHA Sweetheart, Ava had the opportunity to immerse herself in the organization’s efforts even deeper. From participating in the Sweetheart Retreat at Family Farm to engaging in team-building activities, she learned about heart health from inspiring speakers and collaborated with peers from across Little Rock and Hot Springs. This experience solidified her commitment and provided unique insights into how the AHA operates.
The organization’s annual events, like the upcoming Heart Ball on March 15, 2025, at the Statehouse Convention Center, play a vital role in raising funds and awareness. These events, alongside initiatives like “Giving & Sharing” nights, ensure that the funds raised stay within Arkansas, supporting research grants at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
For residents eager to make a difference, there are numerous ways to get involved. From volunteering at hospitals, clinics, and schools to making donations or simply sharing information about the AHA’s mission, every contribution counts. Ava emphasizes that even small efforts can collectively create a significant impact, helping the organization continue its life-saving work.
Reflecting on her journey, Ava expresses gratitude for the learning opportunities and meaningful activities the AHA has provided. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community involvement and the difference one passionate individual can make. Through her ongoing dedication, Ava exemplifies the spirit of the American Heart Association, ensuring its mission thrives for generations to come.
