Creating Hope for Families in Onslow

What is the vision and mission of your One Place?
Our Vision - All children and families are safe, healthy, and living to their fullest potential. Our Mission - When they have challenges, we connect all children and their families to programs and resources that provide opportunities and hope.

Brief history of One Place?
Formerly known as the Onslow County Partnership for Children (OCPC), One Place is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has been serving families of Onslow County and surrounding communities for more than 25 years. By partnering with community and government organizations, we strive to improve the lives of children and families by connecting them with high-quality resources for child care, early education, and child abuse prevention and intervention.

What specific initiatives or projects is One Place currently working on?
We are always working to advocate for high-quality early care and education in our community to enhance services provided to local children and families and strengthen our early care and education workforce. We are ramping up for our signature fundraising event, Diamonds & Denim, which takes place each September to help raise critical funds to support our programs and services, particularly those of our Child Advocacy Center where we have experienced recent budget cuts but continued need for the services. In January, we saw a record number of children in the Child Advocacy Center. In addition, we are engaging the community in our capital campaign to help fund our new building, The SECU Hope Center which will include expanded space for mental health services for children receiving services in the Child Advocacy Center, expanded space to allow us to provide services to more victims of child abuse and neglect simultaneously to hep reduce wait times and trauma, as well as event space to host trainings and events for early educators and the community.

How does your One Place impact communities or individuals?
For 25 years, One Place, formerly known as Onslow County Partnership for Children, has worked to strengthen children, connect families, and end child abuse in Onslow County through critical programs and services provided to local children and families. From supporting children who have suffered abuse or neglect to providing families with high quality child care options, our mission has remained unchanged: To create hope and offer healing for the children and families we serve. We believe that by investing in children and families, we can provide the resources and programs to end child abuse and create a stronger, more resilient future for our community

What challenges or obstacles does your organization face, and how can the community assist?
We live in a transient community due to the military. As a result, we are always working to ensure the community is aware of our programs and services, particularly incoming military families. We also re-branded several years ago which has added to this challenge. Many people often ONLY associate our work with our Child Advocacy Center but we do so much more! All of our programs and services serve as child abuse prevention in one way or another so that we can one day reduce the number of children who receive services in the Child Advocacy Center. Funding for our Child Advocacy Center is also a challenge due to recent budget cuts and increased needs for services, particularly as we have recently stood up on-site mental health services to better support victims of child abuse and neglect. The community can help by following our social media accounts, liking and sharing our posts. Reading and sharing our weekly blogs. Subscribe to our newsletter. Host a book drive to fill Little Free Libraries. If someone doesn't have young children, share about our services with friends or family members who do! Support our work through a donation to our annual fund or community capital campaign, or purchase a sponsorship for Diamonds & Denim.
