Shelton School

Founded in 1976, the Shelton School is a private non-profit, non-sectarian, co-ed school serving intelligent students with learning differences (LD) from Early Childhood through grade 12. It has been the turning point for thousands of students.

Shelton’s individualized, structured multisensory academic program, especially written for LD students, challenges students by building the necessary skills. Shelton’s niche is providing a customized educational approach with positive, practical solutions matching the needs
of LD students.

The Shelton Evaluation Center provides comprehensive evaluations for all learning disorders, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the Shelton Speech Center provides evaluations and individual and group therapy for children and adolescents with articulation, fluency, voice, language, auditory processing and reading problems.

The Shelton School is the largest independent school worldwide for students with learning
differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and ADHD.

What families are saying:

"At the time we visited Shelton, we knew something needed to change. My son, who was once filled with possibility, had turned into a boy filled with despair. I walked out of our visit in tears because I had found exactly what we had been searching for. It did not take long for the hope to return in all of us. As a fifth grader, my son described the teaching at Shelton as 'magical' and as a high schooler he is grateful for the many possibilities Shelton has returned to him and the future that lies ahead." — Diana, parent of an 11th grader

"Shelton teachers can really focus on each student individually and figure out what we need. Shelton changed me so much because now I know I have all the materials I need for my dyslexia at college." — Maisie, Shelton alumna, studying Musical Theater at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee School of Music

Since 1976, people have recognized Shelton as the premier school and resource center for intelligent children who have a learning difference. It is the largest independent school worldwide for students with learning differences. Shelton empowers students through a customized approach within a mainstream environment. We work with the student and the family to create:
* Individualized action plans for intervention
* A curriculum that emphasizes academics and self-esteem
* A social skills curriculum that spans all grade levels
* A division-specific organizational and study skills program
* Self-advocacy skills

Shelton focuses on the student. In fact, we like to say that “we teach students, not subjects.” Our teachers are highly trained with specific expertise and experience in teaching students with learning differences. Of the 282 faculty and staff, more than half hold advanced degrees.

Shelton is also a national training center for educators, parents, physicians and psychologists. Shelton’s business entities include an evaluation center, a speech/language center and an outreach/training program. The new campus provides unparalleled academic and extracurricular opportunities for every student. Shelton students are changing the way the
world thinks about learning differences. The Shelton School is accredited by Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS).
