Family, Community, and Tradition: The Story of the Morris Family

The Morris family of Winfield has made a lasting impact on our community. Scott and Pam Morris, along with their three daughters, Jade, Paige, and Brooke, and their beloved dog, Hollie, exemplify the values of family, dedication, and community involvement.

Originally from Boomer in Fayette County, Pam graduated from WVU Tech with a teaching degree in Social Studies and earned a Master's Degree in Counseling from WVU.  Pam began her career as an elementary school counselor and worked in that capacity for 7 years. She had always wanted to work with teens so she worked at Nitro High School and then at Winfield High School as a school counselor. In total she has been a school counselor for 29 years, spending the last 18 at WHS. "I enjoy helping students decide what they want to do in life and making those plans come true," Pam shared. She has recently accepted a position as an Assistant Principal at Winfield High School and is excited to support students and teachers in that capacity this coming school year.

Scott, hailing from Hugheston in Kanawha County, graduated from WVU Tech with a degree in Printing Management. He spent years as a bank manager before joining the Toyota Plant in Buffalo, where he currently works in the Quality Control Department. "Toyota is a great company, and I enjoy my time there," Scott shared with Stroll Winfield. Scott has diversified his career, working as a real estate agent for Better Homes and Gardens, a part-time travel agent for Magical Travel Associates, and preparing to launch a food truck business named Nacho Daddy's with two friends. Additionally, the Morris family is part-owner of an Air B&B in Boomer, 30 minutes from the New River Gorge National Park, which is set to open this summer.

The Morris family's story began at Bennigan's in the Charleston Town Center. Scott commented, “We met through a mutual friend while I was having lunch with my young daughter, Jade. Pam was with her best friend, Laurawho was a childhood friend of mine.” Married on July 6, 2002, they celebrated 22 years of marriage this July.

Scott and Pam have three daughters; Jade, 26, works as a Pharmacy Technician at WVU Thomas Memorial Hospital. Paige, 21, is a senior at WVU majoring in Exercise Physiology, while Brooke, 19, is a sophomore at  WVU, studying marketing/advertising and public relations.  All three daughters attended Winfield Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, highlighting the family's deep roots in the local education system.

Family time is precious to the Morris Family, with trips to Disney World and extended family vacations to Corolla in the Outer Banks being highlights.  Scott expressed, "Our kids are Disney Kids and love everything Mickey.  We have also taken extended family beach trips with Pam's family for years. It has been great seeing our kids be close to their cousins. Our favorite place is Corolla in the Outer Banks.”

As far as sports teams the family is passionate about, Scott shared, “Our kids have gone to Mountaineer games since they were little and we are Mountaineers through and through. Now, with two of our kids at WVU, on any home football Saturday, you can find us in the blue lot with a group of our kid's friends.”  Scott has also been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since childhood.

The Morris family cherishes traditions, especially their annual trip to cut down a Christmas tree. "Santa's Forest was our favorite place, and the girls always looked forward to hot chocolate and hot cider after getting our tree," Pam reminisced.

Scott's involvement as a Councilman for the City of Winfield and as a former soccer coach at Winfield Middle School underscores the family's commitment to their community. "We've enjoyed seeing all those kids grow up and play high school and college soccer," Scott shared.

Having lived in Cane Creek Crossing for 20 years, the Morris family values their close-knit neighborhood. "Our neighbors are some of the best people we have ever met," Pam said. “Our neighbors had a key to our house for many years and vice versa. If someone leaves their garage door open we text them to let them know," Scott added, "We love the small-town feel, and being close to both Huntington and Charleston. The schools are excellent, and we are proud to have had all three of our kids attend them and graduate from Winfield High School. There is no better place to raise kids than Winfield.”

The Morris family embodies the spirit of Winfield, with their dedication to our community, strong family values, and unwavering support for each other. We are proud to have them as part of our community.
