Tyler Peros: Building Bonds on and off the Court

Tyler Peros, a 17-year-old senior at Winfield High School, lives in Winfield with his mother, Tabetha Peros. As an only child, Tyler credits his mom for encouraging him to pick up basketball after moving to Winfield. "She thought it would be a great way for me to make friends and see if I had any talent for the game," Tyler shared with Stroll Winfield. That advice proved life-changing, as basketball has since become a defining part of his life, shaping him into the player and person he is today.

Tyler has played basketball since the 4th grade, now excelling as a small forward. His favorite coach, Coach Tarr, has been instrumental in his development on and off the court. “Coach Tarr has helped me grow as a player and as a man,” Tyler explained. “He builds strong relationships, cares about his players beyond basketball, and has been a father figure for me when times have been tough.”

One of the things Tyler loves most about playing basketball is the bond he shares with his teammates. “We’re a close group, not just on the court but in school and outside of it. That chemistry makes us better as a team,” he said. Tyler cherishes every moment spent with his teammates, but one memory stands out above the rest: “My favorite moment was when I hit a half-court shot to get us out of running,” he laughed.

Basketball has also brought Tyler personal recognition. He has been named MVP at various exposure events and is a proud member of the National Honor Society. These achievements reflect his hard work and dedication, but Tyler emphasizes the life lessons basketball has taught him. “I’ve learned that when adversity hits, you have to fight through it and keep going. Failure isn’t an option if you want to grow and succeed.”

As graduation approaches, Tyler has ambitious plans for his future. He hopes to pursue a career in engineering or sports-based physical therapy, combining his interests in problem-solving and athletics. For those looking to follow in his footsteps and start playing basketball, Tyler offers this advice: “You’re going to hit tough times, but you have to push through. That’s what will take you to the next level.”

Off the court, Tyler’s love for basketball extends to the relationships he has built. “The best part about the sport is the people—my teammates and coaches—who push me to be better every day,” he shared.

Through hard work, strong relationships, and a drive to succeed, Tyler Peros has made his mark in the Winfield community. His story serves as an inspiration for others to push through challenges and build meaningful bonds along the way.
