Rolled Sugar Cookies for Decorating
Decorating Christmas sugar cookies is a tradition in our family! The entire family participates, and it’s something we look forward to every single year!
Ingredients
-1 1/2 cups of butter softened
-2 cups of white sugar
-4 eggs
-1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
-5 cups all-purpose flour
-2 teaspoons of baking powder
-1 teaspoon of salt
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and chill dough in refrigerator for at least an hour.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on cookie sheets.
Bake 6-8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.
Sugar Cookie Icing
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 2 teaspoons of milk
- 2 teaspoons of light corn sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- Assorted food coloring
In a medium bowl, stir together confectioners sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.
Divide into separate bowls and add different food coloring to each to desired intensity. You can paint them with a brush or dip them. Add fun sprinkles to decorate! Have fun!
