Back To School With the Conroe Academy for Science and Health Professions

Future Plans: Eva would like to get into an Ivy League school and major in Pre-med. Then, after graduating she would like to get into medical school and become a surgeon. "Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

My name is Elle Harrison and I am a student at the Academy of Science and Health Professions at Conroe High School. For those that don’t know, the Academy is a selective group of students that are aspiring to pursue a career in health and/or science. The Academy also has teachers that are incredibly engaged in math and in different areas of science. As a student in the Academy, I am required to take advanced classes exclusively for Academy students that are both challenging and motivating. The Academy also encourages me and my peers to serve our community by providing opportunities for us to volunteer at local schools, food banks, and other places in need of our help. By being a part of the Academy I also get the chance to compete in a diverse selection of fun science competitions such as the district science fair, Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), and more.

The Academy also provides my peers and me with many opportunities to participate in a variety of scientific learning experiences such as field trips to colleges and different science camps. Something most of us Academy students look forward to are the internships that we get to complete when we are upperclassmen. The most exciting part about these internships is that we get to select the one that appeals to us the most, and there is a wide variety to choose from. Speaking of exciting things to look forward to, as a freshman going into my sophomore year, I will be moving from the 9th grade campus to the main campus at Conroe High. Many of us are beyond eager for this move because the main campus is by far more enjoyable than the 9th grade campus. The main campus, for example, has the school’s favorite Moorhead Football Stadium where we host all the home football games, as well as the almost brand-new Auxiliary Field. While these traits about the main campus are enticing, the best thing about the main campus is that it is changing rapidly while it continues to be renovated into a renewed, beautiful campus. Overall, next year and the years to come are looking bright for us students at Conroe High School. I am incredibly excited and can’t wait to see what next year brings. Sic ’em, Tigers!
