Meet Tyty Byars

Like most four year old’s parents, Tyty’s mom wasn’t so excited about him getting into football. His brother, two and a half years older, was already playing so the precedent had been set. The condition was that Dad would coach to keep him from getting hurt. Generally, you don’t start tackle football until you turn six but he was ready to get going. So Tyvonn, nicknamed Tyty, played a year up with the six year olds and they started him off as nose guard. (Nose guard is in the center of the defensive line, usually reserved for one of the largest players.) Tyty played mostly on defense up until about nine years old, when he watched Marshawn Lynch go into Beast Mode™ and decided he wanted to be a running back. He loves Lynch’s no-nonsense style. People would say Tyty runs the same way today, not just with the dreadlocks, but with the aggressive, bull-rushing style that can run another player over or make a quick side-step and be gone. If you know Tyty, you know he’s a very kind and friendly young man. But when the helmet comes on, it’s all business. Scan the QR code to see what we mean.

Tyty grew up in Fort Bend, Texas playing in the Fun League up until middle school, when he joined a select team called Texas Pines Elite. Before freshman year, he moved to Woodforest and joined the Lake Creek football team. He played seven games on the freshman squad where he was clearly dominant, so they bumped him straight to varsity, and he quickly scored five touchdowns in two games. During sophomore year, he was named varsity starter at running back and garnered lots of recognition across the state.

The “Ford Player of the Week” award is given out to one player in each division across the entire state of Texas, and Tyty was given that honor in week eleven of 2022, when he had 357 rushing yards and four touchdowns. That same year, Tyty not only was named All-State running back but was also awarded the MVP of the All-State squad.

His favorite trip from football was to the Florida IMG Academy. It was a select group from the Pines and other players from the area that got together to do some All-American games and identify the best young athletes out there. He loved going to Florida and seeing what that state has to offer. Now, outside of school, he goes to the North Shore ninth grade campus facility to train with Harold Taylor (@t360Elite), and they’ve been training together on and off for two years or so.

A favorite experience he has from Lake Creek so far was during sophomore year. They had a kicker named Alex Abbott (currently at University of Houston) and he would always play the worst songs and dance to them. He says everyone would like them for no reason and it got the whole team laughing.

He’s recently committed to play for Rice, and chose to go there because his official visit had tremendous hospitality. He says he could tell the fellow football players love the school and are proud to be there. Lately, Rice has made moves to have a better football program and Tyty says he’d like to be a part of that build, and he certainly has the experience of building a winning team from scratch. He plans to study finance to help learn about financial security. Real Estate is currently interesting to him, but he's open to see where his entrepreneurial spirit takes him.

For now, let’s sit back and watch where he can help lead the Lake Creek Lions this year. Hope to see you at the stadium; it’s promising to be a good one!
