The One Where the Davises Save All the Dogs

Megan Davis first heard about Woodforest back in 2012 when her mother moved in. She was meeting with Ryland Homes to build when she met a young welder, and three months later, was traveling the country with him and his doberman, Dolce. His name was Colton Davis and his occupation in the oil field allowed some flexibility to travel. So they took their fifth wheel and went.

But she knew her desire was to return to Woodforest, where she had helped her mom find a home. So in 2020, she somehow convinced her rather country-style husband to get a house here.

Megan had always been a real dog lover, and she loved how Colton was really into training Dolce. She thought it was adorable. It was his hobby and he poured himself into it, training his dog almost daily. Dolce passed away three years ago but soon after, another doberman came along that just so happened to be named Dolce as well. Megan has the image of Dolce number 1 tattooed on her leg.

Many, if not all, of us remember the hurricane that swept through Woodforest last July. It turns out their love for these cuddle buddies was consummated during this difficult time. Megan has gotten really into Camo Rescue, a small- to medium-sized dog rescue. During Beryl, the power went out, and the Davises stepped in. Colton stepped up big on his one day off and made sure all of the dogs had air. Then Megan went to work getting these dogs sheltered for the time being. She really loves that the neighborhood Facebook page is so active. She was able, in one post, to garner fifteen volunteers to take in dogs while electricity got put back together. Don’t forget, the heat index was around 100 degrees during that outage. Most of us surely haven’t forgotten! Kelly Johnson is one of those busy moms, working as a nurse and keeping a tight schedule. She heeded the call and came to the farm to take in one of the pups. (Pictured) All of the other dogs however were driven to the homes of volunteers by Meagan herself. In some cases, knocking on doors and delivering as if an Amazon driver.

When they’re not saving dogs, Colton builds oil storage tanks, and has done some welding jobs around town. Megan is in the mortgage world. She graduated with an animal science degree and was planning on being a veterinarian until she passed out upon seeing a dog being put down. There are times mortgage rates can be quite debilitating but she loves that at least she stays on her feet. Their two kids, Kimber (9) and Kennedy (7), have adopted the love for animals as well. They have the same conception and due date, separated by two years, but were born four days apart. Sassy (Kennedy’s nickname) does her best to run the house and will never back down, is a McDonald’s fanatic, and comes by her nickname honestly. Kimber would rather hang out in the teacher’s lounge than at recess. She’s the sweetest, always trying to help everyone, and never gives anyone any trouble. She’s just here for a good time. But they are both their parents’ shining stars.

So that’s the Davises. Now that you know them, you might just be more likely to see them around town. Be sure to thank them for saving the dogs if you do.
