When you receive an email from Seth Buma, you'll notice some pretty special words in his signature.

Colossians 3:23: "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." 

Seth's business, Buma Landscaping, is deeply rooted in this scripture, specifically in its customer interactions. 

"Making our clients' dreams come true is a big deal." Seth says, "As an industry, we've lost the mentality of actually serving our customers."

Seth's fascination with landscape was born from a desire to help families build memories, as he does with his own. He and his wife Audrey have four children aged two to ten.

"When I create designs for these families, I think of their individual needs and personalities." Seth says, "Some clients need quiet, intimate spaces for long conversations; others need big, open spaces for throwing a football around."

This year, Buma Landscaping celebrates its tenth anniversary. Over the last decade, Seth has facilitated hundreds of custom landscaping projects for St. Augustinians. "It's so much easier than you'd think." Seth explains, "My goal is to make visions become reality, and I'm mostly just the guide! When the client tells me what they want, I give them some direction. From there, we choose products, layouts, and lighting. They really get to have a huge hand in the process."

Looking forward, Seth has one major ambition: bridge connections and build a stronger service industry. "I'm not in the business to make a dollar. I'm in the business to make a difference. I'm interested in working with other designers and architects because this industry should focus on relationships—with our community and with our clients.”
